RETRO Pink Triangle & Labrys T-Shirt
A bold piece of Lesbian and Gay history and reclaimed symbolism, this retro-inspired design features an upturned pink triangle with a striking black labrys at its centre, framed by the word RETRO above and DYKE below.
The pink triangle has a complex history. During the Nazi era, a pink triangle was used to identify men imprisoned in concentration camps for being homosexual. In the 1970s and 1980s, the symbol was reclaimed by gay and lesbian communities and transformed from a mark of persecution into one of pride, resistance, solidarity and remembrance.
The labrys, a double-headed axe, became associated with lesbian and feminist communities during the 1970s, particularly within radical feminist and lesbian movements. Together, the pink triangle and labrys evoke a distinctive era of Lesbian activism and the reclamation of symbols that were once used to stigmatise and oppress.
With its bold black-and-pink graphic and deliberately retro aesthetic, this design celebrates lesbian identity and herstory and the power of reclaiming symbols on your own terms.
